Acrobatic Gymnastics is a spectacular and dynamic sport which combines agility, tumbling and acrobatic skills with artistry and dance in a choreographed routine. Gymnasts work in partnerships of 2, 3 or 4 gymnasts and develop high levels of strength, agility, flexibility and endurance alongside courage, trust and determination. It is a true and testing examination of human relationships.
Acrobatic Gymnastics, formerly known as Sports Acrobatics, first became part of the Federation of International Gymnastics (FIG) in 1999 and disciplines include: Women's Pair, Men's Pair, Mixed Pair, Women's Trio and Men's Four.
Gymnasts perform Static (balance), Dynamic (tempo) and Combined routines to music on a 12 x 12 metre floor area. The duration of each routine is two and a half minutes.
Routines are scored by a panel of judges with a maximum score of 30 available. The 30 marks are split into three: difficulty, technical and artistry with 10 marks available for each component.
Great Britain is one of the most respected nations in Acrobatic Gymnastics and has achieved success at World and European level with medals in all categories.
