                                  Competition Information

Gymnasts should arrive at the venue in plenty of time to prepare for the competition, i.e. hair, leotard,                   orientation, warm-up, march on.

March-On is held at the beginning of the day, when the judges and all competitors for the day march into arena, across the competiton floor and back out of the arena.

Orientation takes place before the competition begins and also during the lunch break.  This gives the gymnasts the opportunity to run through their routine on the competition floor, along with the other pairs or trios from their round who are competing to the same judging panel. If gymnasts have not arrived for the march-on they need to be at the venue an hour before their orientation time.

If you want to record or take photos of routines, you must comply with
British Gymnastics guidelines.  Mobile phones should be turned off in the arena as some radio microphones will transmit your conversation.

Height checks take place prior to all competitions.  The top of a pair or trio must be taller than the notch at the top of the base's sternum.  In a trio the top is measured against the 2nd base.  If the top is more than 1cm above the notch there will be no deduction, less than 1cm - 0.3 deduction, below the notch - 0.5 deduction. This deduction will be applied to each routine the gymnasts perform.

Prior to competing gymnasts may be in a different area of the arena from spectators, your coach needs to know your whereabouts in order that you don't miss your orientation or warm up.

There will be two judging panels and each panel will have judges who score either Technical (how the moves & elements are performed), Artistry (the performance, how much of the floor is used) and Tariff (what each move/element is worth). They may also take off deductions either for height or time (if a move is not held for the required time or the music finishes before the routine).

Levels up to and including Grade Two perform one routine (combined routine); this incorporates balance and tempo moves plus individual elements.  Grade Three and above will perform a balance routine and a tempo routine with the scores added together to get a final score.  At Age Group level the top six will go through and compete in a final where they will perform either their balance or tempo routine.  At Junior and Senior level the top six go through to compete their combined routine in the final.
